The ARTC is a new facility for the burgeoning Automation & Robotics program at the MSCC McMinnville campus. With a technology-focused curriculum, flexibility and adaptability of the spaces were of key importance, and several strategies were used to achieve this, such as movable walls in the classrooms and exposed conduit for future reconfiguration of power requirements in the robotics bays. An open teaching area connects the robotics bays, encouraging students to observe the work and demonstrations performed in the bays and providing a gallery space to showcase the program and facilitate further learning and discussion. The use of industrial materials and exposed structures and building systems inside the building sets the tone for the learning environment, and natural light is diffused into the open teaching area and through to the robotics bays through 18-foot tall, north facing windows.
