This Community Center is the first completed phase of a multi-phased master plan for the Belmont United Methodist Church campus. This facility consists of a large multipurpose space that can be used for dining, speaking, musical, or athletic events, and support facilities for church activities. Located in the heart of a busy urban district, thoughtful development and design of the exterior spaces surrounding and between the structures was critical. The new entry, multipurpose community court, playground areas, and parking are strategically positioned to maximize the use of the available property and engage the community in the activities of the church. A history timeline was also designed highlighting the church's rich heritage. The design for the new facility was aesthetically informed by extensive study of the materiality, architectural style, and detailing of the existing historic structure. The Community Center complements the historic sanctuary, unifying the church campus and bringing new energy to the site.
